Dear Sachin Tendulkar, Do not associate with the Congress or any other political party!

Dear Sachin Tendulkar,

You are a national icon. Everyone in the country loves you. Even in Dada’s den, among the chavinistic Bengalis, you are held in higher regard than Dada himself. There is no place in India where you are not an icon. Almost every Indian family has people who regard you as a family member. Hindu or muslim, christian or sikh, jain or buddhist, north indian or south indian, right wing or left wing, they all regard you as one of their own. Two wildly differing people can agree on one and only one point. They agree that you are awesome and that you are their family member. So much joy you have brought the nation’s people.

Now what happens if you campaign for the congress? This is really a no-brainer. Remember, that this is a country that is sharply polarized on political grounds. You cannot afford to be seen on one side of the fence. If you joined congress, you immediately put all the BJP supporters in a bind. If you support BJP, you put the congress supporters in a bind. What are the people who revere you in the BJP to make of this? They will have an existential crisis. It is almost as if someone asked you to give a speech explaining that the Hindu religion is superior to all others. What are your fans following other religions to think? What if you were asked to give a speech proclaiming Shirdi sai Baba as the greatest saint India ever produced? You get the point? Some may argue that this is not the same. Maybe this is not the same. But it is similar. It will have a similar effect. I repeat, You cannot afford to be seen on any one side of the fence. You transcend the fence. Do not support or condemn any political party. Just stay away from politics. It’s not good for you. It is not good for the country. It is not good for it’s people.

You really think the Congress party brass gives a rat’s ass about you? Or do you think the BJP honchos give a flying f*** about you? No, it is your fans who actually care about you. They are the ones who worship you. Don’t do this. Don’t listen to those Sychophants. Let Rekha do it. Let shah Rukh do it. Hell, let Dada do it. Their stature is not as high as yours. You are seen as a uniting force for this sharply divided country. Divided along sectarian/communal lines, hindu-muslim, Divided along regional lines, north and south Indian, Hindi speaking and non Hindi speaking, Along rich and poor and so many more. The common thing is that each division considers you their own. You are the transcendental force. But these forces have existed before you and will continue to exist far after you have gone. Yes, you have a high standing among the people. But even you, my friend, are no match for these forces. In any contest between you and these dividing forces, you will lose. I repeat, this is one battle you cannot win. You cannot defeat these divisive forces. Your best course of action against these divisive forces is what you have always done. Ignore them, do not give them any importance and do not acknowledge their existence. But by campaigning for congress you are giving these divisions a lot of importance, my friend. Therefore, I beseech you, don’t do this, mate. Don’t do it. Not now, not tomorrow, not ever!

You are squeaky clean. You do not get into controversies. You are seen as incorruptible. You are the sandalwood among the snakes, the diamond in the rough, the gold among the pyrites. That is why the corrupt want you to speak on their behalf. They have no moral standing left and they know it. Now they want to use you. You are like a ripe orange to them. Once they peel you and eat the juicy flesh, they will throw away the remains without a second thought or glance, looking for their next prey. Don’t be their prey, friend. Do not be their prey! Let them go looking for some other prey. Not you, Anybody but you.

It seems you have not yet confirmed your participation. This makes me glad. I know you are smart. I know you keep smart people around you. My mother assures me that you will not associate with any of those political scoundrels. And I hope she is right, God bless her soul. Such is her faith in you. Such is her confidence in your ability to discriminate. your self control, your high moral standards. I too am confident, but I just want to make sure. I wish your Dad was around. Talk to your family my friend. They seem like excellent Folk. They will confirm what I say. Don’t associate with Bad company. That is what my mum and yours have said. Do not be seen in their presence. Do not be seen associating with them. Those parasites have everything to gain from this association. You my brother, have everything to lose. Don’t do it, my brother, don’t do it.

Fame can be intoxicating. The Indian variety of fame can be overpowering. Yet, somehow you have kept your head above the water. In the middle of all that adulation, somehow you have managed to not think of yourself as a God. Now, these sycophants will try to make you believe that you are a God. And their kind has been in business since the Dawn of Man. They know all the tricks of the trade in hoodwinking human beings. In making human beings believe whatever they want them to believe, in trapping them, in using them, in enslaving them and in discarding them. Do not let them do this to you, my brother. Do not let them do this to you. Do not let them drag you down. Run away from them. Run as fast as you can. Run, Brother Run.

Your Younger Brother,
